Ive seen that kit.. A C47 transport converted to carry 3 vulcan mini guns on the left side... Have seen film of this thing in action... Cleared jungled in no time... Was also called spooky a google search may come up with something.. I looked over Military hobbies .com and didnt find it... Came up with a C47 Skytrain at the Italeri site.. A little kit bashing and some reference pics and you could probably bang one off...

Haven't seen the kit lately, but I think Mojo is right. A little kit bashing and you've got one.
Having called for fire support from them I can tell you when they fire it 's quite a show.
Looks like they are held up by wires.
A friend once discribed the sound like "a whole herd of elephants breaking wind".

I'd like a 1/35th AC-130U, complete with crew.
Think we can talk Trumpeter into one?

CRS:
Hmm, I didn't think that far ahead.
I figured since DML has released the K-5 rail gun as the "worlds largets 1/35th kit" Trumpeter (which is laso releasing that kit) may want to one up DML.
I wonder how I would explain that kit when it arrived.....

Hello guys,
I saw this thread and registered at once. I mostly build WWII armor but one of the two planes I've got right now is a still unfinished AC-47, I just had to build it, It's got character. And yes, it is the Italeri kit. Now I'm not a plane builder but I think with some detailing it should build into a great model, the kit is a good base to start with and it is still in production and available. You will have to do some searching on the net to find refferance material for the paint job, because I'm not surre if the drawings provided by Italeri are correct.
Hope this helps a bit,
Hut

The Douglas C47, aka Dakota, aka DC3, was used extensively in WWII as a drop ship and transport by the Army Air Corps. It was featured in the opening of Band of Brothers and darkened the skies in A Bridge Too Far. It was also used by the rest of the services through the 50's and, as is being discussed, culminated its US military service as teh original minigun equipped gunships Puff the Magi Dragon.
The basic airframe went into service about 1938 or 39 and examples were still in regular livery use 50 years later. Some later versions had their radial engines replaced with turbo-props. It is considered to have been the airplane that opened up commercial flight to the general public.
Monogram's 1/48 is a nasty kit for warpage. (On my workbench as I write for a museum project). Full interior that disappears when closed up. Even includes the "head" behind the last bulkhead which, even with the side doors wide open, would not be seen. IMHO, a real waste of plastic to include such details. Better to spend the effort on creating a model that has better fit. There was enough sprue and flash to build a small tank.
