I recently purchased one of the old Aurora kits ( a grail kit for me ;-)
and I was hoping that someone could point out the errors in the kit.
Please...no comments like " new wings, new fuselage" if you don't mind.
I'm looking for as complete a list as possible so I can decide for myself what details to modify.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated !

You are looks for someone to point out the errors but you are not wanting to replace parts. So your just looking for a way to over come the kit's build problems?
Thats not too tough. The engine nacelles need a bit of work to make them fit. I would replace the landing gear legs with bent and shaped brass "STRUTZ" from Aeroclub (available through our advertiser Roll Models). All exposed areas like the engine gondola's opening need to be pared back on their interiors to show a scale edge. Propellers need to be filled and reshaped. You could also replace the wing struts or just pare the crossections down to an airfoil. Other than a normal seam removal and clean up its a good solid model kit that resembles the Gotha G.V. Not a highly detailed nor in the best kit category for a 1:48.
There was a write up in an old Finescale (July 1995) article by a fellow who did a decent job of it.
Good Luck and Model on!

Oh no... I'm willing to do mods...even some scratching...I just don't want to go all out and, say, scratch a new set of wings or such.
I'm no rivet counter ;-)
But, I do want to end up with a very decent version of the plane.
So, if there's anything missing, things to modify, anything....I'm looking for as complete a list as possible.
Then, I'll fish through it and decide what I want to tackle.

To my eyes the biggest problem with the Aurora Gotha is that the gap between the upper wing and the fuselage (and engine pods) appears too small.
Make the struts longer and that should fix it.

The great Harry woodman has this to say of it "several innaccurate drawings of the GOTHA V exist and this kit seems to be based on all of them. The wheels and Nacelles may be useful!!!!!!!!

God bless Harry Woodman! If it weren't for him I would not have come to know the joys of PE!

Harry is a great man Stephen--I got his little book in early 70's and it's still around---albeit a bit tattered now.
But 'on-line now I believe
