I am going to airbrush on clear flat acryl after each different color as I find the acryl paint easily damaged by even the slightest mistake.I used enamel primer, sprayed the underside color then used acryl then the same for the top after masking off ECT, seems to be a good idea...is this a common method among you?

by and large, water based paints do not stick well over enamels - that could be part of your problem?
