I agree with Ben, these re-pops as intro kits are cruel tricks on unsuspecting novices. I built the F4U-1 in their Smithsonian collection a few years back. It was terrible. 2 pots of paint blue & white and the white was too thick to use by time I opened it. Decals were white on white, I cut one appart trying to cut it off of the sheet.

Ahh, memories...

I built this kit as a kud, way back in the early-mid 70's. At the time it was moulded in bright red and IIRC, the decals included serials for every aircraft in the team.

Just a note about the pilot figure, it's not that his feet haven't survived 40 years of production, they were deliberately amputated. This particular pattern pilot figure often appeared in 3 variations, full length, amputated at the feet or amputated at the knees, depending on how much space was available in the cockpit. Ah, the perils of an Airfix pilot figure..
