I know that the Canadian 1st Squadron flew Huricanes in the battle, but.... does anyone now if they flew Spitfires? I have not read of the squadron possessing any. Maybe some canucks attached to a Brit squad. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi HastyP, you are right that 1 (Canadian) squadron flew only hurricanes during the Battle of Britain. There were Canadian pilots who flew spitfires with other squadrons. A few examples are listed below.
P/O John Bryson 92 squadron
P/O Alfred Keith 'Skeets' Ogilvie 609 squadron
F/L P.G. St.G.O'Brian 152 squadron
F/L John Alexander Kent 92 squadron
P/O A.R. McL Campbell 54 squadron
F/Lt G.P.Christie 66 squadron
If you would like any info regarding the codes of spitfires flown by these squadrons send me a PM and I'll see what I can dig out.
Hope this helps

Brandy,
I just got done reading "Fighter" by Len Deighton, I remember the 152 squadron being mentioned numerous times, and I think I reacall a Canadian pilot.

Hi Chip, I guess the Canadian pilot mentioned flying with 152 squadron would be Peter Geoffrey St George O'Brian. According to Men of the BoB (by K G Wynn) he was born in Toronto and joined the RAF in 1936. After serving with 26 squadron he volunteered for fighter command and joined 152 squadron as a Flight Lieutenant. He claimed at least 2 shared kills before he took command of 247 squadron late in September. He hapily survived the war and retired fron the RAF in 1959.
