1:48 Kawasaki Ki-48-IPosted: Friday, December 11, 2009 - 11:38 PM UTC
Here is a review of AZ Model's 1:48 scale Kawasaki Ki-48-I. The kit is quite nice but somewhat overpriced for what is included in the box.

Hi Jean-Luc
Thanks for the very useful Review. It's a kit I was really looking forward to, but the combination of price and accuracy concerns makes me inclined to give it a miss. I wonder what AZ's Vengeance will be like - that's an aircraft I've wanted a 1:48 model of for many a long year...

Hi Jean-Luc
very nice review! My main concern would also be the price, otoh it is a model for the IJAAF-fan whith not as many choices as say for the Spitfire.
@Rowan... accuracy issue? I have not read of that in Jean-Lucs review and only know a certain person that brought that up - based on frog lens pictures ...
The problem is that the maru mechanic has 72 scale plans so you are already doomed from the beginning of measuring it. J-Ls "comparison shot" is a computer art. but maybe I missed something ..
I still try to get it, but I will have to save some money first ...

Hi Steffen
Just compare the angle of the nose of the kit fuselage with the photo and drawing in Jean-Luc's review - it's much steeper than either of them. Comparing other photos elsewhere, I think the "certain person" was right on that point.

Hi Rowan
Well, I am just trying to tell you that you cannot compare a photo of a part with the drawing. I will try to enlarge the drawings and compare then. To my eye the whole front dimensions differ from these pix .. the front canopy sits too far forward thus making the fuselage part in front of it look short which gives the impression that the angle is steeper. I am not saying the kit is correct! nor do I say the other way round. For me it is just too difficult to tell especially as J-Ls comparison is a composite img.
Again J-L wrote of "a few mm here and there" and these might be visible but I could not find where he pointed out accuracy issues. I totally agree that this kit is overpriced, especially considering you "have to" buy the PE and masks separately.
Still I hope Jean-Luc will build this crate! .. and if it is just to see if it resembles the original somehow or is a POS as a certain person pointed out.

Hi Steffen
I think we're talking at cross purposes - I wasn't suggesting that Jean-Luc had pointed out inaccuracies in his Review (he doesn't). When I mentioned "accuracy concerns" I was referring back to the comparisons I made for myself when the issues were first highlighted - which, as regards the nose, Jean-Luc's composite picture simply confirms (for me). Modifying the nose to a shape I was happy with would be a satisfying modelling challenge - but I've got so many kits I'd like to build, I think I can live without this one.

Nice review Jean-Luc. That striped paint scheme looks like a challenge.

Hi Rowan
Well, yes and no. I just think that you can prove or deny anything with such a picture. OTOH I agree that there is something to check as it looks a bit strange.... but suum cuique
