I am currently working on an S-3B Viking. It will be depicted flying and firing a Maverick. I am assuming that when it is firing a Maverick the FLIR dome would be in the fully extended position. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Hmmmmm, never heard of an S-3 carrying Mavericks, but then I've lived in the armpit of th eworld for the last 10 years lol.

I'm guessing that a Viking would be acquiring its target via FLIR the same way the Intruder would have if it was launching a Maverick - with the FLIR extended. Best guess I have at the moment.

I know they have tested the S-3B with Mavericks, but I think they are still in the R&D phase. They would fire the same as any Maverick capable aircraft, with the FLIR deployed.

I just found confirmation, the S-3B can and does carry Mavericks now.

in a recent issue of Air Forces Monthly, there's a picture of an S-3B launching off a carrier during Iraqi Freedom armed with an Maverick, umm May 2003 issue I believe. As far as I know, the FLIR pod would be extended since the Maverick is a guided missle. Good luck

Alright guys thats what I thought. I am positive that S-3B's can and have USED Mavericks in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
