Pending the release of the WNW Albatros DV, and not knowing what markings will be included, I am taking an informal poll on how I should paint mine when I get the thing!
Let me start the suggestions with the following;
1. I want to do a LESS Modelled scheme.
2. This poll will not be binding
3. My own suggestions so far:
Jasta 4 Albatros DV, pilot unknown, Wound ribbon in Black, tail a dark color, with white Polka Dots.

Albatros DV flown by Rudolph Windisch, Jasta 32b, black and white stripes vertically on fuselage, black tail.

Any and all sugestions will be considered.
HAVE FUN!

I am betting you will go with the Munchen Kindl. I may do the one with Mai or Rumey's old bone myself. It seems my family has a connection to the German ace. A fellow by the name of G.E.B. Lawson brought him and his Fokker D.VII down.

Munchen Kindl yup

Here are my favourites from Rosebud's archive, in no particular order

The front one, I like the way the thick white stripe accentuates the curves.

Hi Rick!
That's a tricky question, as there many beautiful schemes.
Pesonally I don't like markings which have also skulls in them, because I associate those planes to a more 'romantic' or 'cavalry' epoch.
I know those were death machines, but I associate those explict symbols of death more with nazi SS then WWI pionierring age...
Just my personal view, anyway...

I also have in my stash an Eduard Albatross DV kit waiting for his turn, so pleas post many pics of your buid: I know I'll learn something from them!

Ciao e Buon Natale!

von Althaus

All yellow fuselage, 5 white dots, one black dash with a white border, and the number 1 in black with a white boarder.

I guess you are planning well out since it has again been delayed.

I don't suppose there is anybody out there that thought I would suggest anything different.

This is not Hantlemann's. It belonged to Ltn. Mendel of Jasta 15 late 1917. Some say fuselage is red & blue. Respected authorities in WWI aviation research tell us that this is 'pre-Berthold' and the fuselage is probably all-black with Skull-n-Bones insignia with 5 colour lozenge camouflage flying & control surfaces.

Some really good suggestions so far! Thanks. I do like the von Althaus bird, although that #1 wrapping around could be a tricky masking job. I have been looking at this one and could almost swear there is a sixth dot nearer the cowling which would put an end to the theory of Hussar Althaus.keep the suggestions coming, Remember I am looking for a scheme not modeled very often, but that has some "STYLE".

Have you thought about doing a Polish Albatros? The Polish air force flew this type after World War One.

I believe that the Polish Air Service flew the Austrian Oeffag Alb. D.III.

I like the Jasta 5 Green tails. The box art shows an example of that as one of the kit supplied markings.
If you had photo's of the ones you wanted to do, a poll could be taken and that would further assist you in your decision making matrix.

Cheers

Stephen,
Thanks for posting the large clear picture! I am going to back off a lot here I thought about what I was looking at, and figured a lot more knowledgable researchers than myself had seen 5 dots so who am I to dispute the count! You seem to be correct in your assesment. My real question is how did you know which dot I was talking about by my description of near the cowl

It was the same question I had when I started researching the same issue 20 years ago.

Sooooo......

Now we are seeing the impending releases. What is your choice Rick?

I am thinking of taking my own advice and might build Uncle Ernies airplane.

What do you think Rick? Some neat schemes wouldn't you say? Carl I like the UE Scheme as well. After reading his book, I really grew to admire the guy: a shame he had to kill himself. I will have to wait and get mine and scope the schemes out further before I make a decision. I will probably get the GF involved as she really likes these WWI A/C especially the German ones. The Aurora Albatros I built is prominently displayed atop her T.V.!

Ace of the Iron Cross : Ernst Udet by Stanley ulanoff and Richard K. Riehn

A pretty good read, nothing real heavy or intense. The last chapter comes under question as to its authenticity. I picked a copy of it from Amazon.

OK. I was thinking UE was "Uncle Ernie" that I referred to in my post. I guess your UE should actually be EU.

I thought your "Uncle Ernie" was Ernst Udet. I do like his silver Albatros. I would like to do all of his a/c. I would highly recommend the book. He really seemed like a genuinely good guy. The way he treated his adversaries, his tour of the U.S. etc.
