Hello:

I believe at one time, Hasagawa and or Tamiya put out a kit of a Royal Navy FAA F4U Corsair. I assume that these kits had the correct type of wing for this a/c as the FAA Corsairs had a "clipped wing" as the hanger deck on their carriers were smaller then the USN ones.

I wasn't sure if the correct wing was included or the modeler had to "clip" it themselves but the kit did contain the wing tip to attach.

Thank you in advance.

Michael if your looking for 1/48 you could go for the Tamiya kit and use the MDC conversion which also comes with correct radio and drop tank.
Not sure if the Hasegawa Corsair comes with the correct wing tips.

Luciano:

Thank you for your reply and for the link to that site. Oddly enough, the conversion set did not come with the wings or at least the tips? Does the Tamiya come with the FAA wing or did they release their F4U as a FAA version at one time? I did a check of their site but the only markings that come with the kits that I saw were for USN/USMC.

Thanks’ again.

Hi Michael, No the Tamiya kit has never been issued with FAA markings and does not / has not been done with the clipped wings.
If I remember correctly the conversion set gives you measurements for the removal of the wing tips.

Give me a few days and I'll dig it out for you.

There's a wealth of information over at Britmodeller on this thread.

I know there are a number of other threads over there on the same subject so it might be worth a search, the one above was the first one I came across
