I took some flack for actually building this bird from some collector freinds of mine, but I say....BUILD EM ALL!!..hope you all like it..there was some experimentation, and its a pity the scratch intirior is all but invisible in the shadowy depths..

Hey Jim, great job on the Sally. One question is the designation correct? I thought the Sally was KI-21, I could be wrong it's hard to keep all of the nomenclature straight in your head sometimes.

I REALLY enjoyed looking at the camoflage, camoflauge, however you want to spell it! A really fine piece of model work. All the best, Russell.

Jim,

Why would you catch flak for that? It looks great.

It was good natured flak I must admit...it is a collectors kit really, and relatively rare to find...Ebay shows them going for about $70.00 or so ...I got mine for $30 and fell in love with the subtle riveting... I will be sending in alot more pics for a feature on the site here..I REALLY wish the intirior was more visible. the intirior, panel, bomb bay, and gear bays are all detailed..

actually Russell, we are both half right on the designation...it is actually a Ki 21 type 97..I was too quick and just read the big red letters on the boxtop as I made this post..

I wasn't trying to give you any flak Jim. Just pointing out in case someone else wanted the kit and went looking for it, they might not find a Sally 97. That was all. I didn't mean anything else. You did a fantastic job on the kit and I hope to see more of it. Again, thank you for posting the photos. Russell

Looks great Jim. I'm not a big fan of WWII Japanese planes since IMHO there are so many more interesting and gracefull planes built by everyone else. That being said, yours is beautiful. I'd love to have her sitting on my shelf.

Really nice job.

Very nicely done Jim. From the look of it, I'd guess that the kit is one released by Revell-Japan in the mid 70'. During the time I lived in Japan I picked up 2 of the kits. The one I bought in the late 70's featured a revised canopy - a bit taller, with the widnscreen a little less steeply angled.

I haven't build either of them yet.

Yes, it is an A+ build! My guesses are probably because,

1. It is 'collector kit' or,
2. It isn't one of today's high dollar super-tech models with perfect fit and scale rivets.

I still have the 1:72 Revell-Japan Ki-49 Donryu "Helen" that I built about 30 years ago, and the unbuilt 1:72 Revell-Japan Yokosuka P1Y Ginga. Neither can match Hasegawa's modern offerings, but both are decent kits that look pretty good for a fraction of the new model price.

I agree with Jim: BUILD EM ALL!!..
