Hi all you learned gents and ladies.

Just a quick query...... Refering to LvR's DVII as shown on the Kagero Richthfen's Eleven book. Would I be correct in taking this as a late OAW and is it accurate? I'm planning on using it to finish an Eduard 1/48th I've been detailing for a while now.

Any insights to this A/C would be appreciated

Ta

Keith.

Thats exactly why I thought I would ask, the illustration shows the access door on the upper left cowl, I thought only OAW craft had this...so I decided to ask

If I recall correctly, LvR recieved his final wounding of the War before the Late Fokker Built DVIIs were around. Greg van Wyngarden has stated on the Drome that he believes this profile to be fictitious. That being said is it possible/probable that LvR flew a DVII marked in this way? Perhaps it is. But it would be an Early or mid production Fokker Built, rather than a late, and would be a conjectural scheme. I hope this helps, and I am sure any mistakes in my statements will be corrected by Stephen or another more knowledgable forumite!

i think you need to speak to stephen to see if its a real scheme, as the drawings i have only show the cowling to be correct on 1 side...

even if its not real it looks good

The Kagero book considerably muddied the waters with its fanciful and unsupported rendering of "Lothar's" D.VII. There is no photo or combat report that subtantiates this scheme. In the potential meter I would place this firmly in the hypothetical / bogus category.

See here.

While I am a stickler for details, I will say that there is plenty of room for hypothetical schemes. Remember the "When I flew with GB"? We all chose to create identities and put a story to them with an aircraft scheme. My categories are real, plausible and hypothetical. Out of all the hundreds of kits we have there is bound to be one that needs a bit of hollywood hokum in the mix. Dwayne even did his version of an Alb. with cool personal markings he devised.

The imagination keeps us youthful.
