I've just posted a new poll on research. You can find it on the left as normal.

Hi Bryan

I'm stuck on how to vote!! I've got a reasonable book collection, but I usually look for walk-around sites etc on the Internet and check the local library too...

All the best

for me, researching a project is a big part of the fun, I would vote, but I would need to pick about every option you have listed. Im a big history fan, love the stuff

I gotta agree with Bender -- unless I'm just doing a kit for AMS relief, I'll check every source I can access without having to buy a plane ticket to the Imperial War Museum

I must agree with the others. The research is at least half the fun, and I use all the sources I can find. Since I live close to an air museum I may even take a trip over there. Most of my models and dios are inspired by a photo I've seen in either a publication or are art exhibit, and some are losely based on events related to me by witnesses. My book collection is pretty good ( I think ), but I don't rely soully on anything I have on hand, if I can think of another source.
So I can't answer your survey using your choices only because they are too narrow ( not a criticizism ). But I think the responses here provide a good picture of the research involved.

I have to agree with you all. After looking at your responses and looking at the poll, the questions did seem kind of narrow because I myself don't just check one reference.

I added a couple more options and the catchall any combinaiton option. The poll feature doesn't allow use to setup the poll where you could check all that apply or I would do that.

Thanks for checking it out and taking the time to respond.

Hi Tin_Can

I like to buy a book on almost every subject that I model. I own the Jentz & Doyle series of books on Germany's Tiger tanks, also the Panther tank book. All sorts of WW-2 airplane, and modeling "How-to books, grace my bookshelf. wouldn't know what to do without them. I must agree with everyone else, It is Half the Fun!!

I do a combination of all the things shown on the left, in the foll order....

1. Have a set of about 4-5 encyclopaedias on A/C, and use them.
2. Go for walkarounds at ARC or AWA
3. Use other model snaps on the Net as a ref.
4. Check out decal sites for camo patterns.
5. Beg for help at Armorama/ARC (of course !)
6. If nothing else works, the kit stuff is there !

Cheers,
BP.

I have to go with the others. There is no simple answer. I am currently planning my next model, a Tamiya Meteor, while still working on my Chieftain. So far my Meteor research has involved-
Checking my own aviation library including WW2 publications.
Visiting the local public library and getting out available books.
Googling - which has so far netted me only a meg of downloaded pics (I have 15MB of Chieftain pics!!) but also some sites I will revisit - and I am still searching.
Checking web based kit reviews.
Tomorrow I will be searching my favourite second hand book shop looking for Airfix mags, and aeromodelling titles that may have something useful.

All this and I have yet to buy the kit!

Regards Dave

for armor I only do modern US so I rely on my 9 years in. If I have a question on how some thing looks, I walk down to the Motor Pool
