Hello All,
I am wondering what was more common for British fighter bombers like the Typhoon to carry. Would they have had 2x 500lbs, 1x 1000lbs etc. I know that every situation was different but I want to make sure that I don't load the plane with an unreasonable amount of bombs.
Also, was the Spitfire Mk 9 used for ground attack?
Thanks,
Cam

Not a Typhoon expert but as far as I know the Typhoon could carry either 2x500lb bombs or 2x1000lb bombs, one under each wing. Then of course there were the rockets.
The Spitfire IX certainly could carry bombs but I'll leave the details to someone better qualified.

Thanks,
I just bought the Ultracast 1000 bombs and I am wanting to know what to do with it. I want todo a typhoon wth rockets so I was thinking a Spitfire with bombs would be good.

The MkIX could carry 1 250lb under each wing and i believe 1 500lb centerline ... i dont think it could carry 1000 pounders ... check thespitfiresite.com.

Thanks,
This is exactly what I wanted to know. I could also grab the 500lbs bombs as well.

Typhoon could carry up to 2 x 1000lb bombs, or 8 x 60lb rockets, not both (or even a mix.) Spitfire could carry 1 x 500lb under the fuselage, and 1 x 250lb under each wing, but had to have the stronger 4-spoke wheels and the extended-horn elevators. Hurricane could carry bombs under the wing, but not under the fuselage (they blanked off the radiator.) Tempest could carry bombs, but never did (during the war,) since it was kept exclusively as a fighter.
