I doubt you will be able to get any correct markings as they used mainly stock footage for the flight scenes. I also believe the unit that Maverick was in was a fictitious squadron as well.

Airfix and Testors did release a range of Top Gun kits many moons ago, your probably best searching evil bay and the likes.

If i get a chance I'll dig the kit out of the stash and scan the decals so you know what to look for.

Hope this helps

Thanks that's a big help. I just bought an Airfix F14 to go along with the 'MiG28' is there any references for F14 markings around the time the movie was made?

Hi Scott,
There was an article in Finescale Modeler not so long back building the Airfix/Testors F-14 from Top Gun, which included the fictitious markings.

The Finescale site is down for maintenance this weekend - will see if I can find the issue over the weekend among mine here.

Best wishes,
Dermot

Hey Scott,

The Finescale site is back up and you can access that build article via the following link (pdf download required).

http://www.finescale.com/How%20To/Articles/2008/10/Better%20ways%20to%20build%20Monograms%201-48%20scale%20Top%20Gun%20F-14%20Tomcat.aspx

Any problems with it, let me know and I could PM you with the original.

Look forward to seeing your build.

Best wishes,

Dermot
