Check with member John Reid as these kits are his forte. He did a 1:16 Camel for one of his dioramas.

Thanks Steve,I've spent hours looking at Johns posts and his fantastic dio's and have changed my mind I've gone for the model airways albatros, ,
I managed to get one here in the UK for around the same price, I paid more for the kit,but is equaled out by the cheaper postage, also, without the risk of getting stung by VAT/Customs ,etc
I built the Hasegawa SE5a 1/8 about 25 years ago,and have a few plank on frame ship kits under my belt, and I do like working with wood so this should be fun
I've seen a few horror stories about these kits ,but each to their own,it is what you make it!!!
Cheers
Andy

Remember this kit is based on the old and somewhat inaccurate Wylam drawings.

In almost all internal definitions. Some parts are too small, narrow or structures were guessed at. Though as a kit is it very buildable check John Reid's thread to see some of these being discussed.

I haven't looked at that thread for quite a while. It is a good thread. It is just so very long. What is the best reference for the internal structure and placement of all the bits and pieces? (That really makes me sound like a competent engineer, doesn't it?) I am really anxious to build mine, but I want it to be totally accurate. I would love to get a scale spinner also. Sorry, Andy, I don't want to hijack your thread here. But this is a great opportunity to figure all this stuff out.

Found this one listed on ebay. Here is the description:
ALBATROS SCOUTS DESCRIBED by Charles Schaedel, Kookaburra Technical Publications, Dandenong, Victoria, Australia, copyright 1971. Series 2 No 1. Stapled card covers, 10 x 6.5 inches, 25 x 17 cms, 24 pages, sound copy with yellowing edges, has been stored in an outhouse.
Makes you want to run out and snap it up, doesn't it?
What is that advice Daddy used to give me, Don't Eat yellow snow, or read yellow books
I could come up with more if I didn't have to go visit my bowel specialist , right after a trip to the outhouse
I guess this would be a great reference since I am planning on building the bird flown by Ernst von Outhouse
I guess i should "GO" now

Hey, Dick Turpin,you hijacker
No probs Carl ,lets keep this 1/16 stuff together.
How is yours ? mine had a load of stuff missing, mainly wee cast bits ,but mostly the under cart struts!!!,it took me 4 hours ,two highligher pens, 6 beers and my son to check the contents
I've ordered the WW1 german gun set from Toms to replace the cast kit parts
I want to do a 1/2 covered aircraft, something like this(if only!!!!!,this bloke is a GOD!!)
http://www.wwi-models.org/app/album/Acn.php?base=%2FImages%2FForan%2FCamel&hdr=Sopwith+Camel+F1&picInx=2
When are you going to start yours? want to do a buddy build?

Carl I have that book already....£5 from my local aviation bookstore. Its an interesting but dated little pamphlet book with some interesting text and a few nice pics too (4 sweet sharp if small b/w of the Canberra DVA cockpit)
Tell me how much it sells for as the shop has 1 more copy at least
Sorry to add to Carls abduction of this thread Andy but I couldnt resist

I have not checked the parts list yet. I think there might not be enough alcohol in the house to accomplish a parts count.
I am disapointed in the quality of the casting. But I expected that. I was most interested in the quality and cutting of the wood parts. I am not disapointed there. I would love to do a complete, fully covered, model. I can see it will be a long project, because I am going to outsource or scratch build a lot of the cast parts. The machine guns have to go. The engine is OK. I think I can make that work. The struts are going to go. I heard the undercarriage really cant support the weight of the aircraft, and will need to go also. If we do a buddy build, I will probably slow you down.

I already lost track of the posting. The yellow pages turned me off of it. £5, How much would that be in real money? Actually, it sounds like a good price.

Hey Carl,
I'm going to bin the struts too,I've got the Toms MG set and I'm going to replace ALL the nuts and bolts inc the cast on ones with these
http://www.scalehardware.com/threaded-hex-bolts-c-1
Still no reply from Modelexpo about my missing parts due to the missing parts guy being on holiday for the last 3 weeks and hes working his way thro the backlog!!!!
I might try to build a 1/32 prop in wood by halfing the dimensions of the kit parts, what do you think?,would it work???!!!

Check with member John Reid as these kits are his forte. He did a 1:16 Camel for one of his dioramas.
Here it is.

I have done it in 32nd and 48th scales. So, Yes, it will work. I just trace the 1/32nd prop onto the prepared wood and cut it with a very fine band saw to the general shape and sand away. That is also the site I am going to use to get my nuts and bolts. Check out this site also.

What are you going to do for struts?

Still no reply from modelexpo about the large list of missing parts, totally crap service,I've sent several emails and they have not had the decency to even acknowledge them.
I was going to get the camel, but with this level of service I wont bother.
I spent £195 on this kit,I think I deserve more
Andy
Carl, hope yours is ok,struts will be replaced with wooden ones
