Hi

Just thought I would seek some welcome constructive criticism from those who know more than I. This is a project I'm working on for "The True North Campaign" via Armorama.

Although, I'm just learning and not a rivet counter, I'd like to make a reasonable modeling effort. In this case, I'm sure I've made some serious errors.

I primed the model using Mr. Surfacer 1000 followed by two thinned coats of MM Chrome Silver enamel. The silver was compromised with a few drops of black added. Then, I masked some panels and applied the white on wingtips and rudder. (Should have done that first?). Then, I let it stand for a week.

After masking the rudder and wingtips, I'll apply a coat of MM Acryll Aluminum. Hope it works out, but, I'm not to sure.

I know Im a beginner; hoping the photos are good enough that suggestions for improvement can be offered here.

Thanks for Looking. Guy

i think it looks good so far.I would have done some pre shading but at the stage your at now I would probably darken up some of the panels and weathering would make it pop.

Looks good so far. Which kit is it. How has the MM chrome silver responded to the tape you added?

Tamiya 1/48.

Oh Well!! As you can see, the trim white should have been applied to the Mr Surfacer 1000 primer prior to application of the MM enamel. I believe that may have prevented the peeling on rudder and left wing. I must also remember not to burnish masking down.

The Tamiya mask left a bit of adhesive residue on the MM Chrome Silver. Some alcohol on a Q-tip should remove that.

I thought the shade difference between the MM Chrome Silver and FloQuil Aluminum topcoat would be more pronounced. Not to unhappy with the subtle effect, though.

I like the phrase, "Model On"

Well, it's nearly done. Put the decals on today.

I'm actually quite pleased with it, considering I've built so few static models over the last 50 years. This little P-51 gave me some much needed experience, and the desire to carry on.

Aside from this, I'm working on a Spitfire for the Pin-Up Campaign. It's at the stage where I'm learning how to scribe; I hope!

I think you did a great job on it. The silver looks convincing and the subtle color variation looks as it should.

Good Morning

Thankyou all for the uplifting comments.

Just thought I'd post the completed model. She depicts a Mustang Mk.4 based in Calgary, Alberta during 1953. 403 Sqn. RCAF, (Aux).
I'm probably posting in the wrong forum; oh well, its still a WWII bird.

The model was completed for the "True North Strong and Free" Campign via Armoramma. The first campaign I've ever completed, and frankly, this is the first static model I've completed in 28 years. I started lots, and nearly finished some, but, not quite. Usually I mess with balsa and R/C. This one gave so much pleasure, that I wish to become more active in the hobby. It was alot of fun.

Glad to be on-board, this is a wonderful site. Guy

Looks great. If you're up for another P-51, there's a P-51 Campaign starting next month. Plenty of other campaigns out there too, so there's lots of opportunities to build more kits!
