Are all 1/48 scale Hasegawa F-14's from the same mold? I mean if i am going to use Eduard Zoom, Resin ejection seats and aftermarket decals, does it matter what Kit I buy? It the $70.00 kit really better that the $40 one???? I am talking about the same model like A's D's Etc...I know they will havve slight differences, so basically are all the A's the same?

Hasegawa have two different toolings. The newer tooling would be the best one to go for as they corrected a few fit issues.

These couple of articles help to show what to look for and some tips on construction (Part three describes the reworked tooling).

Awesome article, now where would one find the Black Box cockpit. Everywhere I have looked so far does not have it even listed. (Roll Models, Great Models, Sprue Brothers) where are some other places to find it....

If my memory serves me correctly, it is OOP. I'd suggest ebay next. Great Models is showing the "B" cockpit in stock. "Q"

The initial and later Hasegawa Tomcats are not really two different toolings, as about 95% of the base kits are the same; baring of course B/D updates and the like.
But yes, the updated or later tooled 48th F-14s were mild mold alterations for better fit; primarily the intakes.

Those are good articles BTW, as I’ve been referencing to them for years now.

How good are the Revell kits? Are they workable? I Will be using PE and Resin seats at least? Even with all the aftermarket accessories they will cheaper than a Hasegawa. What do the experts say???

Cool, that is what I was thinking too. Just needed some more expert advice. I am working one about 2 or 3 hasegawa;s right now for well under 40 bucks each, That is a good price right?

Revell over Academy any day of the week, as I'd rather have the raised panel lines and poor fit issues to deal with than the fubar’d nose and canopy of the Academy kit. This is not one of Academy’s better kits and is one of the worst shaped F-14 kits on the market; so heads up all.
