Here is a photo feature of Steffen Arndt's 1:48 scale MQ-1 Predator from Bronco. Quite an unusual aircraft if you ask me...

Nice one Steffen!

I should have my Global Hawk finished tomorrow to keep your Predator company. Drones Rule OK! Well, maybe not totally - I do miss having a cockpit to play about painting and detailing. But it's always great to tackle something a bit "different" once in a while.

All the best

Thank you Rowan!

but judging from the views I'd say "different" projects are not very well liked. E.g. neither of my recent finished models could compete with the features of the more common projects of the same date (of course this could also be because my models are that bad. If so I like to have some comments .. I can only learn)

good luck with your "Weltfalke" ....

cheers

Hi Steffen

I won't be posting the Global Hawk as a Feature - with no eye-catching missles or other "dangly bits" it doesn't really lend itself to a photo-spread.

Did you damage the Predator's propeller at some point and fix one blade back on? It may be a trick of the light, but they look opposite ways round - one looks like a "puller" instead of a "pusher".

All the best

Hi Rowan

thanks for the hint! I broke that darn thing more than once (must be 6 or 7 times) I just checked the kit and I am not sure it is wrong or right. But I agree it looks wrong on the pix ...

cheers

Hi Steffen,

Nice choice off the beaten track - have this kit waiting in the stash and thanks to your inspiration it could become an 2010 project now.

BTW: I‘m wondering how on earth the Predators manage to take-off without ramming their tailplane rudders into the ground...

Cheers

Hi Matty

Thanks for the kind comment!

Well I discussed this elsewhere (maybe in the BLog) First the control surfaces rotate in the center so you do not need that much clearance and 2nd I think the wing is not stable enought for a steep climb with high forces, but has a very good uplift, so no need for extensive steering maneuvres ..

but that's just my 2 €-cent (which is no longer that much )

cheers

Hi Steffen,
Thanks for your input about the Predator's design - that makes sense.

Anyway, this aircraft is still a kind of an irritating construction IMHO. But that's what makes it interesting.

Cheers
Matty
