As I got a new airbrush for my birthday and I'm dying to try it out, what better way then with a Italian camouflage scheme.
Now as you can't do the painting until you have built the model, this is going to have to be a speed build .
The unfortunate model assigned to this task will be MPM's 1/72nd scale Breda Ba.88B Lince.
I'm hoping there won't be any complications, and it will be built near enough OOB.
I shall try an update hourly.
Anyhoo, here are the parts, along with a screen shot of the site.

Good luck, now the football season is over, I have something to keep an eye on. From the sprue shot it looks good, but there is nothing like a build guide to see how good a kit realy is. Oh and happy birthday, enjoy the airbrush.

Well I have been at this all day, well nearly, Grand Prix qualifying and a footie match got in the way again .
I was hoping for no complications during this build, fat chance.
The cockpit is fiddly and delicate, then you can't see it anyway .
Most of the joins need filling. Near enough all the parts have to be trimmed to fit, and there is no locating tabs on the fuselage and wings. Oh what fun we have .
Well this is the state of play.
Hoping to get some paint on this tonight at some point.

How can sport get in the way of modelling? That's just silly!

Regardless of such time-wasting, I'm amazed to see you've got the kit basically assembled so fast. What is the filler you've used? I don't recognise the colour. Wouldn't it be safer to wait until morning before painting to give it time to cure thoroughly (assuming the stuff shrinks as it dries like most fillers)?

I think looking at the colour of the filler it's a mix of Tamiya and blood type B from Andie's blistered hands!

Sport always gets in the way, Grand Prix and a footie match today as well, there goes any work this afternoon .
As for the filler I use, I got given this at a model show by one of our members (Deepstriker) and its lovely stuff, dries really quick, and doesn't shrink, as far as I can tell.

No blistered hands yet, nose was clogged up with dust though .
As for mistakes, one, doing this as a speed build .
Well I got the cowlings on last night, yep they needed filler too.
Finally finished sanding this morning, and gave it a coat of primer.
Painting next.

Super cool Andy, loving this build !!

It was nearly finished, all I had to do was dull coat it and attach the canopy, then it all went bloody wrong.
Now as I haven't really done any serious modelling in nearly a year, all my spray cans are tucked away in a cupboard, so sorting what is in what, I found the flat coat and also white primer. Both cans are exactly alike, do you see whats coming . Knock on door, answer door, come back, pick up wrong can. .
Oh well, half of its in winter camo.
Of course its acrylic primer sprayed on acrylic paint DOH.

Hi,
Nope, at least half the decals are used on each version, of which all three schemes available are identical apart from the serial numbers and the colour of the spinners.
Oh well lesson learned.
Think I'll go start a Tamiya kit, a white one .

If it were 1:48 I could probably cobble together a "rescue package", but because I so seldom work in 1:72 I'm afraid I just don't have any suitable decals stashed away.

Nick's right - the camo does (did) look good. Nice work with the new airbrush! Here's to better luck on its next outing!

I was quite pleased how the camo came out. The PremiAir G35 airbrush is an absolute delight to use, which was the whole purpose behind the build anyway, so I'm not too annoyed about it.
The camo was sprayed freehand apart from the lower demarcation line.
Oh well, just got the Eduard 1/48th 110 out the stash (which was started then put in the unfinished pile for some reason ).

That the spirit Andy. What a real pity with the paint, I have nearly done that a couple of times myself when I have put the lids back on the wrong aerosol. That camo effect was looking pretty damned good for a first attempt with your birthday present. Despite the accident I think a lot of folk will be buying the kit.

That sucks for you Andy. See, you should have used your airbrush exclusively then this would not have happened..

I have quite a stash of decals. I may have some 1/72 ones for you.. are you game to paint it again? If you are I will have a look-see.

Thanks for the sympathy guys, but its my own stupid fault, should always check what colour your spraying .


Don't worry about the decals Warren (but thanks anyway), its now sitting above my spray booth as a warning and reminder.

Accidents like this certainly make you careful! I've never made this particular one because I don't use aerosols for anything other than priming, but my classic c*ck-up was to add thinners to some paint already in my airbrush. Not normally a problem, except I wasn't paying attention and used the wrong thinners! It promptly turned the paint to jelly and it took ages to get the muck out of the airbrush.
