This is both a finished work in itself and a pencil study for an upcoming commission. The painting will have a couple more Camels in the background. The Camel will be on approach to Clairmarais Aerodrome, outside of St Omer.
For my lighting reference I used the Hobby Craft 1/32 Camel.

Impressive Russell. If I could commission an art work it would be Ltn. J. Jacobs 2nd midair with another Pfalz D.III
18Dec17 Ltn.d.R. Josef Jacobs collides with Ltn. Alfred Welss (Jasta 28) and is forced to land near Dickebusch Lake, Ypres. Both are OK.

Well, coming back to this one a few days afterwards it was apparent how lousy my ellipses were. Yikes! I attacked it with the eraser and pencils this morning and made some adjustments. Hopefully this is better.
