It is a little late for this in Europe but thanks to all the Americans and Allies who gave their lives for freeing the continent!
A funny story is about my dad, who was a Marine in the Pacific at the time. He was on a transport out in the middle of the ocean heading for a date with the island of Saipan where he would catch one in the right arm on the fifth day ashore.
The loudspeaker crackled to life and a voice came on it saying the Allies had landed at Normandy. He gave me the impression that those on the ship were underwhelmed a bit. Since they were just days from their most recent D-day in the Pacific! Sort of funny I thought at the time. Just thought I would relate that today. Take care everyone, Russell.
