Hi! I just bought myself a Messerschmitt bf110 d-3, and I'm new to building german aircraft. Building is the easy part, but painting german planes? HELP!
I've got serious trouble with the mottling technique. I've got an airbrush, but the nozzle is too big, and the brand I'm using doesn't sell smaller nozzles!
Can I make a nozzle? Should I buy a new airbrush? Or is there any other technique I could use, like masking?
Answer quick please!!!

Can you tell me what kind of airbrush you have? I use the Testors Aztek 4709. Some people like it, some people despise it!
Turn the pressure down is the first trick. Learn to spray the mottling at low pressures, around ten psi, no more. If you don't have a gauge on your compressor, I don't do it by feel.
Then use the double action function of your airbrush. Push down for a bit of air, pull back for a little paint. Just quick spray burst will do the job. Practice on a piece of cardboard first.
Any more questions just ask. Hope this helps some. Russell.

Punch some holes in a piece of card. Hold close to the model and spray over the hole. Practice first.
Paint the model in the mottle colour. Put small pieces of Blu-Tac where you want the mottles to be. Spray over with the background colour. Better for Italian aircraft, probably will not work as well for German.

Use a double-action airbrush and just lay down the mottle!
