I've been working on a NMF P-40N on and off now for a few months.
She's in her NMF with her white tail, but I just can't get the decals I want (lesson 1: get them before painting your a/c!). Anyway, I want my bird silver and by gawd she's going to be silver! lol
Anyway, humour aside (yes, that was my humour above), I'd like some tips on how to add a serial number, as hand-painting one in 1/72 just ain't going to work with my peepers!

What kind of numbers do you have? I can look through my decal stash and see what I've got. I build 1/72 scale pretty much exclusively. I would just find some decals and apply them to the tail. Russell

If they are are a dark colour (i.e. not yellow, red or white), and you have access to a colour laser printer of photocopier (or black and white, if you only want black serials) then you can easily print them yourself onto clear transfer paper, which is quite cheap when you think of how many serials (can other decals) you can make from a sheet.
You can also buy sheets of number in different styles, but unless you intend to make a lot of the same country's planes in the same scale, that may be a bit of a waste.

Thanks guys. The ship I want to create is below. I need the serial numbers, and the '34' for her nose if possible, although I reckon I can hand paint them if needs be.
Unit: 7th FS, 49th FG, USAAF
Serial: '34' (43-23194)
Middleburg Island, New Guinea, 1944.
I tried to put a link from WingsPalette but no joy. It's on Page 10 of U.S. P-40s if you care to see.

Cheers, Andy. Yep, she's the one.
There's another profile of the same ship showing the tip of the vertical stabilizer as red and yellow with a thin blue stripe beneath it.
This profile you kindly provided a link for shows the anti/glare as blackish, where as I'm sure it would have been olive-drab.

I would go with the Olive Drab anti glare.

Hi Alex
The number '3' looks similiar to the number three seen on some WWll Russian aircraft. Also have a look on the Letraset website here. you might find something there.

Thanks, Tim, I'll take a look.
I notice you're also in France, and possibly also a Brit? If so, do you get your supplies in the UK online or in France. There are no good model shops within a 100mile radius of my home as far as I know, so I order online. However, I can't order the Tamiya sprays as they don't send overseas and in France with postage they're triple the price!
