Recently a friend of my moms has been having a hard time. She hates her job, she broke up with her fiance, and feels really bad. So I took it upon myself to cheer her up. My earlier post asking about the Blue Angels was related to this.

She really likes the Blue Angels, a lot. So I figured that I would build a model of one for her, and put it on a nice looking piece of wood that would otherwise go to use with one of my armor dioramas. I have the model, paint, and base.

I am just wondering if this is a cool idea to help someone out? I mean wouldn't it be cool to get a model of something that you really liked (besides a beautiful woman, for most of you #:-) )

I would like to hear from you if this is a good idea. Thanks!

~Chip :-)

Hi Chip,

I appreciate your noble gesture, but I feel this is not the forum where it rightfully belongs. I'd say it was an OT discussion, and probably would be more at home in one of the OT forums.

All the best,
BP.

Byte Pilot,

I figured since it is plane related that it would be ok to post it here. And if I post it somewhere else now, like I did a couple months ago when I did two posts of the same, Jim will delete one, or both like he accidentally did last time.

And, I figured that I would get the responses from all the plane guys to in this forum.

Thanks,

~Chip

Sorry chip buddy, but I don't see anything plane related here.

You are asking for subjective opinion on whether it's OK to make a model for someone. Now, if you'd asked whether to model a 1/72 or 1/48, Academy/Hasegawa/Tamiya/whatever, and asked further on plane markings, etc, then it becomes 'plane related', and belongs in this forum. Otherwise, I'd say it's better off in the General Modeling forum or OT forums.

I repeat, I have nothing against the idea . But I sincerely feel it does not belong here. Rest is upto you....

Cheers, and peace,
BP.

Ok, nothing against anyone , but if it's not alright for chip to ask what seemed to be a reasonable question, was it then alright to ask in Aircraft when an electronic "bit" of ribbon was coming for a campaign?

linkname

Just asking for a bit of tolerance on this board. We're in modeling because it's fun and a hobby, I hope, not because it's a parliamentary matter.

Everyone take care.

And yes Chip, it's a perfectly fine idea.

Cheers everybody

Hello mate,

It's perfectly within rights to ask for the 'electronic' ribbon b'cos
1. It *was* an aircraft build.
2. I did participate in that build, and made the model too within the final date.
3. I asked for technical help during the build, not anything else.
4. Last but not least, I learnt a lot while making the plane.

If you don't want a ribbon, fine. I do. For me, it is an achievement and I don't see anything wrong in showing it or asking for it.

I do agree with the said idea, and I think it's good. However, all I said was that this question would be better off in the General Modelling Forum than here. Is that wrong?

Ok.

For starters:

Flaming Chip was also in poor form. If you wanted to berate him, a PM might have been preferrable to what was done.

As for Chip's choice of forum, I agree that it was a reasonable choice given the fact he wanted the input of his fellow aircraft modelers. He wasn't soliciting business or something unethical.

As for ribbons, I'm also building for a campaign right now and I don't mean to devalue or demean your experience and achievement. I'm also building for a campaign right now. BUT, since it was a campaign issue -- using your reasoning -- it should have been raised in the campaigns forum.

All I'm saying is, let's try to be a little reasonable here. It's a fun hobby, his question didn't hurt anything by its placement, and I personally don't have a problem where you ask about your ribbon. I merely chose the example to point out the dangers of nitpicking when we're all supposed to be friends on here.

We're supposed to be nitpicking on Luftwaffe colors, underwing stores, code letter styles and how to mask canopies

Yaaaawwwwnnn......I can't believe a friendly request can be construed as flaming here LOL!!

Ok Chip buddy, you win. Yours is a great idea, and it definitely is meritorius. Please go ahead, and do let us see your pictures once you are finished.

Cheers,
BP.

Did someone put a 'Dear Abby' column in Armorama? What does this have to do with aircraft modelling? Please, if you want advice of this sort, find another website....sorry, I'm not being intentionally brutal but does a modelling website really need this? Jim

I think that an honest question was asked to start this topic, albeit probably in the wrong forum-this should probably have been in the Junk drawer.

That being said, lets all get along.

Back to your question Chip, I think it would be a very nice gesture and would bring some light into a friends life that has been recently clouded by darkness. I say go for it (but show us the results first).

I’ve just completed Italeri’s Horsa Glider for a D-Day vet who flew one into Normandy. It was just a surprise gift, and he was very appreciative. I think most people would love to get an appropriate model, and appreciate the time, effort and skill that went into making it; not to mention the thoughtfulness. I think you’re doing a very nice thing, Chip, and I would venture an opinion that more people should think about doing it.

As someone who is constantly annoyed by the inability of older and theoretically wiser members to post in the correct forum I must say the criticism directed at Chip is totally uncalled for.

I cant think of a nicer thing for a modeller to do Chip. I am not the most generous of people -Scottish ancestry (that should antagonise some haggisbashers) - but I have made models for people in the past and they have always been most appreciative.

The surprise factor is important - everyone gives flowers, chocolates, whatever. How many people give models.

My last car model was a Fujimi Toyota MR2 AW11 which I converted to represent my mates car and gave to him for his fiftieth birthday. He was tickled pink.

There is a double whammy here, you get the pleasure of the build, - and the pleasure of the recipients joy - but you dont have to store/dis[play the thing!

Go for it Chip!

PS I guess you are aware of Paul Boyers Kalmbach book on aircraft modelling that has an item on Blue Angels.

Regards Dave

Thanks to those who helped. It is greatly appreciated. I am sure she will like it.

I posted it in this forum to get the input from the Flyboys. I thought it would be a good question to ask you guys. I get heated debates, and other stuff. Thanks for your support guys. I mean half the thread was about me posting it in this forum. Screw that, I look around this site, and see stuff that has nothing to do in that forum posted in it. So I am nice and ignore it, or just post a reply. Look at it this way, its a way to up your posts, and also your rank. It wouldn't hurt some of you to take a break from being critical all time and just give me your opinion on something that is somewhat related. To those who helped thanks again, Bytepilot I understand where your going about posting this here, thats cool you have your rights and stuff.
As for other stuff like this, forget it. I won't ask anyone anymore questions like this anymore. If its that bad, I will ask my mom or friends instead because obviously it has to be perfect.

Have a good day.

Hi chip.

I'm really sorry if my reply was construed as 'flaming', but I can assure you it was not . I appreciate the gesture that you are trying to make for a soul that is in pain, and I wish you all the best in your projects.

Tell you what, I do have a copy of Paul Boyers book that was referred to in an earlier post. Let me know if you want it, and I can scan the Blue Angels section for you and send it across. BTW, I don't think it's about making the plane, but about making the bases for the plane. Think about it... ...

Cheers,
BP.

Chip, go for it!!!!!!!!!! I think it is a nice idea and don't think there was anything wrong with asking your fellow builders views on such. If someone , (myself included) can post about a sale ad in Aircraft Forum, then your question is kool too. Go ahead buddy, make her day!!!!!!!!!!!
