Hi

I'm waiting for my AZ models Spitfire PR 1G to turn up and was wondering what the correct Pink would be to use. Can anyone tell me?

thanks
Mike

When I built a pink Spit a few years ago I used Xtracolor RAF PRU Pink. (enamel).
It looks ok to my MKI eyeball and nobodys complained so far
Hope this helps,
Nige

I suspect thats actually the exact correct colour to use! My next question is does anyone know an equivilent in an acrylic paint range? I know there isn't one in xtracylix and the paint conversion chart doesn't list the PRU Pink, so i'm stuck trying to figure out which acrylic colour to buy!

thanks

I think the consensus seems to go for a very very light pink, almost white.
I would add a bit of grey, and the tiniest bit of red to some white- this will more accurate for a slightly faded aircraft than any paint available. Good luck with the AZ kit- I have the PR IG boxing too.

Speak of the devil! Its just turned up now. Looks like the same kit as the AZ models MkIIa i'm building right now. That means lots filing, filling and sanding the ill fitting parts! Also means drilling out the holes for the cameras and glazing them yourself! You do get a vac formed bulged canopy which is different!
The box just says pink but your right it does look quite pale. I'll have another look through the acrylic paint ranges but if anyone can suggest an acrylic thats close to PRU Pink then please let me know.

thanks
Mike

Xtracolor pink is too strong; I've seen an original colour chip, and you can only tell that it's pink, if you lay it on a sheet of white paper. This illustration is the closest that i've ever seen, and there's a photo, of some pink F.R.IXs, in the RAF Museum library, which is very good (if you see the original, not an editor's idea of what it should look like.)

Edgar, what do you think about the possibility of the earlier camoutint pink used on PR IG's being different to the later PRU pink used on FR IX's?

I have heard that in black and white photos the earlier aircraft appear darker than the later aircraft. I've not seen any photos of pink PR IG's.

None, at all; the chip, that I saw, was dated 17.8.41, and came directly from Benson, using standard paint, supplied by Titanine.

Thanks guys - I've got some pink vallejo paint now and was thinking if I mix it something like 1 part pink to 3 parts white, that might be a good starting point!

thanks
Mike
