If my memory serves, it was 65 years ago today that J. Robert Oppenheimer and his team of scientists detonated the first atom bomb near Almalagordo, New Mexico. It was there that Oppenheimer had the thought "now I become death...the destroyer of worlds...". It is interesting how such a horrific weapon could of ended the worst conflict in human history. It also quite possibly saved my life. I'm only 43, but my dad, Frank Robert Anderson, was a Marine seargent getting ready for the invasion of Japan! What a bloodbath awaited not only our Marines and Soldiers but the Japanese people. Thank god it ended it. Just a historical reminder. Russell

P.S. In the 1948 election my dad said he voted for Truman since he thought he owed him one for deciding to drop the bombs on Japan. He said it was one of the only times he voted for a Democrat! He always smiled when he said that. Miss you dad. Glad you had a full life when so many of your generation did not.
