Ok, Im an RC flyer as well as a plastic builder.

Flyzone just released this:

Image from Model Airplane News

And I have a few questions.
First off, how dirty should I make it?
Second, what would the pilot look like? Im assuming leather helmet and jackets but scarf or no scarf?
And lastly the images I've found online make the markings seem pretty correct, but shouldn't it have the 5 color Lozenge pattern on the underside of the wings?

Things I know I need to add:
Upper Wing radiator and pipe.
Some detail painting on the motor
and some dirt....no way was this bird that clean right?

Thanks in advance, I know this is a wee bit off topic.

A quick search from the wings Pallette yielded this.
Albatros D.Va (OAW)
Unit: Jasta 18
Serial: unknown
According the pilot's badge it could be airplane of Lt.Kurt Monnington (ace with 8 victories). Middle of 1918. Wings colours and tail markings are speculative. Wings may have been in 4/5 colour upper as well as lower.

Check out their site.

I think it looks great with the 5 color lozenge. Hope this helps until a more knowledgable expert posts.

thanks Carl, thats the first site I hit so I could find the group she flew in.

Looking through some other amazing Albatros builds, it looks like the exhaust didn't stain to much down the fuse..should be a simple job to weather it a touch.

I can't wait to fly this puppy! I'll make a little post when I get it.

So how dirty should i make this?

Oil leaks
Mud spatter from wheels
cordite stains?
exhaust staining?
I plan to "chip" the metal bits a touch and add some shading to the wings and fabric surfaces.
I see the wheel covers were metal as well. So they will be painted red and chipped/weathered as well.

Any other ideas?

We all weather on kits differently , have a look at finished builds of the subject youweathering to get an idea . Some folks do go over board with the weathering .

Oil stains where the access hatches are with some chip paint will set it off just right , not to much chipping though . All metal parts will show some wear and tear so chipping in other areas will add to it more .

Mud on the wheels and under the lower wing will have staining for the dirt etc,etc ...........

You can high light the ribs on the wings with a lighter shade of the base colour
or you can use pastels such as a light tan , yellows with a final dusting of a dark brown .

Hinges for the control surface you can add some dirt staining around the area as well . Have a look at some of the builds in my profile for examples and ideas .

got my plane last night and had a chance to fly it, what a wonderful flyer!

Added some cockpit combing and started my pilot. I need to make some new guns though as the very nice supplied ones are WAY to heavy.

Would German WW1 pilots have flown with scarves? Or would they have been tucked into their jackets?
