Revell have released test shots of their new Arado AR196 A-3. As you can see from the photos Revell have included many features that we associate with this scale, such as detailed cockpit, engine and engine bay. There is also the added bonus of folding wings and the choice of two propellers. The panel lines look nicely done as does the representation of the fabric surfaces. Not being a Luftwaffe expert I will leave you more knowledgeable folk out there to judge whether this is going to be a hit or not, but bare in mind these are test shots.

Great new, Tim! Don't ask me why but the Arado has always been a favorite of mine. Of Luftwaffe planes, their float / seaplanes have always interested me more than their land-based machines.

Normally not the scale I build in, but this could very well be an exception.

Now isnt that mouthwatering...just begging for detailing. Canopies and panels look wonderfully thin, Very good first impression.

Very interesting model

Where these aircraft with the Luftwaffe or the Kreigsmarine? Just wondering. Also, could make a good subject for a conversion to one of the prototypes that used a single float and two outriggers. There is a video on the net showing it in taxi trials and it is in rough seas which appears to cause the engine to part company with the rest of the airframe.

Good diorama idea!! Copyright Warren Inman 2010..

Hi Warren
Is this the video you are talking about?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vnhze7UiGbU The pilot was not messing about when the plane caught fire was he.
Would make an interesting conversion.
All the best.

Wonderful, I can't wait to get my hands on this. Does anyone know where to get plans for the catapult?

The KM had no independent air arm per se. Goering insisted anything that flew remain under his control. So the German floatplanes attaches to capital ships were crewed and maintained by LW personnel.
