Hi all
I was inspired the other day by rotc_wildcat's etched machine gun, so I took the plunge and nicked a pair from Eduard's Fokker DVI to add to my AoA Albatros DV.
A WW1 buff can probably spot a million mistakes, but (with a distinct lack of refernces...) they seem a lot better detailed than the original plastic items...
All the best

Hi Dave
"Rowan" is fine by me!! When I joined up, the call-sign business caught me a little off guard, which is probably why I messed up!
Thanks for the tip about the brass - I was about to paint everything "gunmetal"...

Overall how do you rate those Eduard biplane kits? For my next old wood and canvas flying maching I want to try something much easier than the Blue Max kit I'm working on now.
Hi Wildcat :-)
The latest Eduard kits are probably the best, most user-friendly WW1 kits out there... the Camel (due out in the UK this week) looks awesome on their website!! :-) :-)
The older kits are another matter ... the plastic parts are much more "short-run" in quality and smaller parts are included as etched brass - even when this isn't really the best medium! On the plus side - it's from one of those kits that I nicked these guns... :-)
The best bet is to look for Profi-pack versions of the new models - etched metal details to add to an already good kit. :-)
I saw a load of Blue Max kits on sale last week, but resisted the temptation... if you're having trouble, maybe it was just as well...
All the best

Hi again
Despite the best efforts of the Gremlins, (which included breaking and losing some parts!), I've re-build (see the Campaign folder) and managed to get the first coat of paint on... :-)
The etched metal parts are no problem... keeping the Gremlins hands' off this kit is doing my head in!!
All the best

Hi Mal,
Well there not finished yet...
But the best reference I've found so far is spandau guns
They look basically gunmetal... I've just tried a coat of Testors "burnt metal" which shows promise...
Hope this helps

Not to rain on any parades, but Spandaus (don't know about Parabellums) were delivered in a gloss black enamel finish (probably semi-gloss in any scale other than 1:1).

Cheers ZoomieE7 :-)
Don't aplogize for rain, when it helps things grow right!! :-)
Fantastic, I was looking at the photos on that web page again, and trying to tell if it was black paint or really dull gunmetal. There seem to be two colours - the body of the gun is definitely black, the rear and left side maybe very dark metal... of course this example might not be in 100% original finish... (90+ years of wear and tear!)
I'd already decided to darken things up a lot :-) - now I know to go the whole hog!!! :-) :-)
Thanks again

Hi almonkey
Well these guns are 1/144th scale... sorry just kidding!! :-)
I'm building Eduard's 1/48 DV, but the guns are basically pinched from their old Fokker DVI (it's a long story...).
1/72 scale photo-etched barrels should look amazing! :-) Show us some pics when you can...
