Hi all,
Here are some pictures of my latest build: Italeri's 1:48 scale Macchi MC.200. The model is quite nice and captures well the shape of the original. I have modified the hump slightly, eliminated the rivets on the wings because I found they were overdone and added some details in the interior of the wheel bays. The engine is very well done on the kit as is the typical cowling.
I wanted to do an aircraft based in Sicily which was involved in the battle of Malta so I've used a sheet from Sky Models for the decals. I had to scratch build the wind deflectors on the windscreen and the cockpit side doors because Italeri only provide the middle production variant of the cockpit. I suppose they will do the early style closed cockpit in the future because the fuselage halves show traces of inserts in the molds. If you like the early Macchi, I would say the Italeri kit is an option to consider. One can add some more details to it, but I have seen models built from the box which look very nice and I think I will get another one to try a desert scheme...

Hi Jean-Luc
Gorgeous camouflage and work in the wheel well! At first glance I'm not sure about the shape of the fin though - it doesn't seem curved enough somehow...
All the best

Nicely done, Jean-Luc! I'm sure people will want to know just how you tamed that hump.
Cheers!

Great work!
That mottling looks superb. Is that done all freehand?

Hi all,
Thanks for your kind words...
Nothing special. I didn't changed the overall shape, just sanded the sides a little flatter, that's all. Sorry not to have something more spectacular to say...

As I said before it's great, I loved it
I want some detailed information about the mottling please
Has it got pre-shading or any other techniques like that ??
Cheers Nick

Hi Nick,
I did pre-shade the model in black before applying the grey and green paint but it is not very visible on the upperside anymore. The "poached eggs" were done freehand.

No question here
Cheers Nick

Hi Oliver and Nick,
Oliver, I won't go to Gelnhausen on 10th October but I will be in Thionville the next week-end (16th and 17th). Will you be there?
Nick, please don't ask me about pressure and psi because I don't have precise adjustments. I have used Tamiya paint which I have thinned quite a lot with X-20A thinner from the same brand. To know if the paint is correct I always spray on a cardboard and add paint or thinner accordingly.
The cables and wires were indeed multicolored on the MC.200. At least that's what I saw on the walkaround pictures I have seen.
