Hi gang
this is another project that will probably take years well it already did. I completed it almost, but the decals of the Hex Losenge broke after they were dry and the more I touched up with paint the more broke so I shelved it like this:
As Stephen kindly led me to Doug Baumans Hex Losenge decals that I ordered this week and I still have no mojo for the P-38 that I really want to finish, I decided that a bit of destruction would be nice.
This was easy as the struts were glued with CA. So today was oven cleaner day .. I am still a bit dizzy, but the thing is clean now and I only lost a few parts of the engine, that I need to scratch build later ....
BTW if anyone has the data block decal below the cockpit as a spare shoot me a PM or email...
all the best
Steffen

So this is what it looks now
i have stored some small parts separately and i need to repair some. Repainting parts of the pit will be difficult, but I could not avoid it (I tried).

Hi Keith
really, I would prefer to work on my P-38 but at the moment I like WW1 better ... no idea why. I normally would not take apart finished kits, but as this was still wip AND I was not happy with the decals it was no problem.
Now I am waiting for Dougs decals to arrive and maybe I am lucky that someone could provide the data block (I also contacted Jan Zdiarski) .. but no joy so far.

Hi Terri
I have not heard from Jan yet, so you are the only one that could offer help so far. I think I will wait a few more days (until I have Dougs decals) and when eduard cannot help I would like to take the offered data block (maybe you can also give me the measures of the top wing "L" as I forgot to measure that and the Blue Rider sheet sadly only has the side "L"s (and no data block).

Hi Louis

Steffen please tell us how you stripped the paint and decals

Stephen
it is just oven cleaner and scrubbing the parts. The paint went easily but the Decals needed several applications of the cleaner.

Since i first set eyes on your beautiful modeli have been captivated by its lines and plumage,i have decided to have a go myself in 1:32. Whats more i have discovered that due to overheating problems it was often flown without top and side engine panels???????

Thank you for the hint re overheating problems!
Still I need to find out what exactly I would have to remove .... so I will probably leave the kit as it is .... maybe
cheers

Learning about the fact that these aircraft flew missions with the power plant's
exsposed would be a nice oppertunity for those of us who feel a confusing tad of regret, as we close up all that beautifl engine detailing when we join the fusalage half's together on our respective build's, to me it is like closing down the lid of a coffin! That's just me though.

Hi Steffen - I remember your original build - glad to see this one is getting a new lease of life! I did the same with an old Hi-Tech Roland D.II which was my first proper WW1 model but had been badly broken over a number of moves. It is rewarding when you get to see her all dressed up in new clothes - stick at it!

Hi Brad
You remember my original build .. well thats cool, because I do not remember myself ... must be a very loong time ago. ...
Doug just informed me that my Hex camo is on the way (he was very busy lately) and I am very happy that it was not lost in transit but is just a little late.
I started some different stuff meanwhile ... just to keep on modelling.
all the best
