The Dr.1 cowl had a wire that secured it to the firewall. Can someone please post or provide links to pictures showing this particular detail?

Thanks Stephen for the link. I've been going thru the site and from what I could see, no closeups though, looks like a very thin wire along the cowl and a couple of clips.

Essentially thats true. The cable was meant to apply tension to the circumference. The cowling has a furrow at the trailing edge that overlaps the fuselage. This is Roy Houchin's photo of Ross Walton's replica.
