I saw that there was a new P-61 Black Widow out in 1/48 scale. Anyone have a review of this or info? Is it better than the old Monogram kit?

This is an important place to me as I have pictures of my Dad next to them on Saipan. I have always wanted to build one.

Steve

I know that AMtech is releasing a P-61 but don't think it's out yet. Not familiar with the Monogram version.

The Monogram kit for years was the only game in town. With AM/Tech releasing a new tooling P-61 and more than one version I've heard as well. As we saw when Hasegawa released a new F-8. We are seeing some new kits coming out replacing the old but still very good Monogram kits in 48th scale. Nice to have variety. Looking forward to seeing the Am/tech kit. But as we all know it will cost more. Again it is a matter of choice.

:-) Hi Steve,
I have the Monogram kit. It looks pretty accurate and is quite well detailed. It has raised panel lines though and I just have to re-scribe them (been doing it off and on for a long time). When the AMTech model is released Iwill be getting me a couple of them. This will probably mean that the Monogram one will be up for grabs. The problem though will be that it will be part re-scribed

Hi everyone

What's the betting...

The new AmTech kit has the best "scribed" exterior, while Monogram still did the best job on the "innards"!! :-)

Don't you just love modelling....

Well, I hope the new kit gets good reviews. This is a cool plane and if you guys get to the Air Force museum in Dayton, you can see one in person.

Quite an amazing aircraft and some neat variations that could be modeled.

Start saving your pennies. Squadron has 'em listed at $54 (USD), less than the MSRP of $59. Not yet available as the other posts have stated

Yikes! I hope it's a good kit then. I will wait for reviews on that one.

The Black Widow was always one of my favorite AC from WWII. I built one (Aurora?) in the late 60's n 1/48, certainly NOT the Monogram which came out circa 1975 or 76 when I was working at a KayBee store. (Ah, the bad old days! At least I got a discount and got to see the newest, and quite exciting, Monogram kits as they came out.)

I gotta tell ya!
I have 4 Monogram`s P-61, and with new decals, resin parts and a litle bit of scratch you have an awesome model to work with!
Also this kit is pretty cheap!
So, I love this model, what can I say?
Bye,
