I am trying to finally finish my Eduard F6F Hellcat. I am modeling a plane flew off of the Enterprise during the battle of the Philippine Sea. What would be a typical loadout for one of these birds? A Google search only brought up one possibility and that was 2 - 1000 lb bombs and a drop tank.

The Battle of the Philippine sea was known as 'The Great Marianas Turkey Shoot' as the USN Hellcat pilots shot down so many Japanese planes. If it was me I'd have no bombs on that one, just a drop tank maybe.
However, Hellcats also carried 500lb bombs (2 of), not at the same time as the 1000lb bombs of course! They could also carry HVAR rockets - 6 in total.
thanks
Mike

Hi Mike. Since I posted the thread I've learned that during the battle that Wildcats from the Enterprise were charged with air patrol so, like you said, would have been armed for air combat. Thanks for your help with this. I might just finish this project yet!
