Hello,
I'm primarily a ship guy, but lately I have gotten the bug to build a flying machine. Specifically, I'd like to do a nice Spitfire in large scale. I am comfortable with PE and other after market add ons.
I've been looking at Airfix's 1/24 Spitfire Mk1A. Any thoughts on this kit? Major fit issues, accuracy issue? How is the detail? I'd like to be able to build up a nice, well detailed finished product to display in my office.
Thanks in advance for any advise or suggestions you can give.

Hi Bob,
I've not seen the Airfix 1/24 up close, so I'm no authority on the subject, but I think in terms of shape is is pretty accurate. If you do some searches, especially on the Large Scale Planes forum, you'll find some amazing builds where people have added a lot of detail. I think it is a good basis for adding to, rather than a-detailed kit, by today's standard.
I think the aftermarket items are pretty much limited to the products of this company:

It is also hard to get decals in 1/24, and hard to get them to look good, so masks are a good way to go.
