thin the plastic from the back side
build up some internal structure that would be visible through the holes
make indented roundish entry holes
jagged torn exits

Alesky,

Hi,

One way is to carefully thin the plastic with a dremel or something till its wafer thin then punch it through witha a sharp scalpel/craftknife, if done carefully enough you can curl the edges back and rip portions off to. Punch the holes in for inward bound shells and out for outwards, remember thought that airflow too will have an effect, larger pieces may peel back.

Also make inner structures out of strip or sheet underneath to add realiity.

If I get chance tomorrow I'll drag a C-47 I'm working on out and post pics

Slow but sure...got up in the loft.

Not as much on the C-47 as I thought but found an old...very old stalled project of a B-17 so took some shots of that too.

Now these are flak damage but the principle is the same and as Shaun said entry holes will be smaller often round but the thinning and indenting is the same..push in entry and out exit..obviously.

two views of the same area in and outside.

Same again but a different area

B-17..seeing this when I pulled it out the box made my interest grow, knowing what aftermarket goodies there are since 198X..seeing all the raised panel lines dampened it down lol

both sides and one inside shot to show you how to thin it out first.

Just remember little gentle application of the dremel when its thin...a little too long or heavy and the plastic melts. I recommend practice practice practice on old kit bits....and also..different makers plastic reacts less or more to such treatment so lay with spare bits/spruetags to see it's limits.

Another thing...bullet cannon holes seldom formed a neat hollywood style dot dot dot down the surface...more scattered and random as various forces took their toll on its path

Most importantly..enjoy
