hi Folks, I have a friend visiting me from Victoria, Australia who does wingy things and he bought these two up to show me and I thought I'd share them with you. He would like comments on them please.

Impresive job. I like them a lot. The wind screen seams to have some residue from the masking tape. To avoid that I give them a coat of Future before masking and after the paint job is done and the masking tape removed I clean the residue with WD40 and a Q tip.
Congrats, nice birds.

Looking good !
The pre-shading is perhaps a bit heavy for the first one... but that's to my taste only.

Hi cliff
Tasty looking birds. The following is intended to be constructive...
I agree with penpen... the shading is a little heavy for my taste on the Pacific Theatre machine... but they were in a very hostile environment...
Also - and I'm not sure on this point - didn't Australian built a/c have a bulge in front of the cockpit where an auto-pilot was fitted? I know they carried different wing armament to UK machines... so I think there should be two ejector shutes under each wing. (I can check refs if you like...)
The second Beau looks like it's painted dark blue - maybe a camera trick... but I think "Night" would be more accurate. Of course, your friend may have references for a dark blue scheme - in which case... nice job! :-)
All the best
Rowan

How did your friend get such a dead-flat finish on those, even over the decals? Multiple coats of flat varnish/laquer, or what?

Part-timer's got a good point... the name decal on the first kit is beautifully done! :-)

:-) I just love the Beaufighter, but I haven't built one, yet. These 2 are well built.
I don't think it is pre or post shading but a wash? possibly the same colour on both models?
I think it just stands out more on the pics, than it would in real life? The "blue" one may be extra dark sea grey, this can look blue in pics?
Cliff, am I right in assuming that your friend is about to join Armorama? We need more aircraft modellers :-)

what is that red stuff on the nose?
Hi Dave
That's a good representation of how the cannon ports were pasted over with canvas (or paper) and red-dope... colour pics from the period show a pretty messy job. The model is spot-on :-)

the camo one is an english manufactered Mk 10C plane supplied to the Australian airforce. Out of a total of allmost 800 Beaufighters operated by the Australians 540 were english manufactured ones.
The blue one is a Mk1C and was one of two armed reconnaisance planes photographing the Turkish coast line during WW2.
Both models have been resin enhanced with parts from GRW products a resin company here in Australia.

Nice one Cliff! :-)...
Phew - lucky I didn't manage to get too much egg on my face :-)
So is that blue paint "Deep Sky" or "Dark Mediterranean Blue"? I've always been looking for an excuse to use either colour, but have never found an a/c to try them on...
All the best to you and your mate

So is that blue paint "Deep Sky" or "Dark Mediterranean Blue"?
the blue is a light mix of roundal blue. The best way of mixing it is....Humbrol 'Midnight Blue' and progressively add white to tone it down until you get it to just lighter than the Blue in the roundals.
Hope that helps
