I am wanting to try using lead wire for detaling like I have seen some of ya'll use. What are some good sizes, types of material, etc. that some of ya'll are using that would be appropriate for 1/48 scale and what are good sources?

Plus Model have a line of lead wire packets that include some very useful sizes for detailing. 0.2mm, 0.3mm, etc.

Also, you may have a fishing store local to you. Lead wire of many diameters is available there, as its used to tye weighted flies.

You can also use electrical soldier. Much safer than 'lead' wire and holds its shape nicely.

Thanks Guys! I never thought about lead wire for tying flies. I will check out the local hunting/fishing shop. If no luck there I'll order from Cabella's.

Just bought 4 small spools of Lead Wire at Cabela's! I got .015, .020, .025, and .030. I found these in the Fly fishing department hanging on the wall.

I am not sure if Bass Pro has this but I imagine that they do, go check it out!

Hadn't considered fly tying accessories. Was going to suggest Radio Shack for various dia, of solder.

Craft stores like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, AC Moore etc have tons of diffent size wire for crafting and jewely making. Another source are the old discarded electrical cords. Strip them and you have a ton of very thin wire. I also salvage wiring from old electronic and computer equipment.
