Hi all,
I am thinking about converting a JU-88 into a Mistel with a Fw-190 as the control plane. I was wondering if anyone had specifications and reference photos of the Mistel and the Fw-190 mounted to it.
Thanks,
Harry

ok i have a book i got from the lirbary its called the luftwaffe.
they have a pic of the mistel.
its in black in white.
but i have an old copy of fine scale modeler.
and this guy built a mistel....
if u want email me at [email protected].
i will photo copy all the pics out of fine scale and send them to u if u wanna,,,,,,,
but the mistel was used as a bomb,,,,,, and the guy in fine scale said that there was a crew in the mistel and a guy in the fw-190, but he is wrong,
the book i got said that the luftwaffe filled the ju88 with bombs and the fw-190 would drop the whole hu88 on targets, i aslo saw a tv show on the history channel a few weeks ago and they said the mistel was used as bomb. but its still cool to build one .. so email me if u want the pics of the plane

Hi Tazz

That's not strictly correct... training aircraft used a manned lower section.

According to my refs, the first Ju88s coverted featured a fairly standard nose, attached with quick release bolts. This held the bare essentials for a two man flight test/training crew. For operations, the nose was replaced with a hollow-charge warhead.

All the best

Hi Harry,
I'm building the Dragon Mistel 2, very interesting model. I've been stuck on the camouflage details for quit some time now.
If you type in Mistel on Google picture search you will get all the pics published, most anyway, of the mistel combinations. I believe the Fw 190s used were G-8 series (mostly) and the Ju 88 war wary airframes again G series, I think HTH.

My reference "Hitler's Lutwaffe" by Tony Wood and Bill Gunston states approx 250 Mistel composites were built.
Operational Versions:
Mistel 1 = Ju88A-4 with Bf109F
Mistel 2 = Ju88G-1 with Fw190A-8
Mistel 3 = Ju88A-6 with Fw190A-6
These all flew with Green House or 3500Kg warhead

Other Versions:
Ju88G-7 with Ta152H
Ta154 with Fw190
Ar234 with Fi103
Do217K with Dfs288

Pathfinder version:
Ju88H-4 with Fw190A-8
Both units manned Ju88 and Fw190 with extended fuel capacity Fw190 was inteded as fighter escort

Research version:
Si204 with Lippisch Dm1
Ju287 with Me262
Ar234C with Arado E377

Thanks for the reference stuff and info guys..
I have 2 fw-190 kits... I was thinking about buying a ju-88 kit and scratchbuilding the mounts and maybe trying to also scratchbuild the warhead for which I was looking for the specs to, if I don't use the greenhouse type fuselage. #:-)

You are more than welcome, guys. I don't build airplanes but I am the google master. Glad you found the links helpful.
