Ugghhh!!!

Well... I guessed it was coming!!!

I looked at that "so-called" interior detail and thought "here cames another 'cut-away' like the Swordfish!"...

I'm probably in a minority of one... but sometimes I think Tamiya have lost the plot...

What do I know?... Heck! I'm not in marketing...

Hi again

I think those that like this had better wait to see the price before they get too excited...

If it's like the clear Swordfish - ouch!!. A friend who owns a model shop hasn't managed to sell a single example, because the price is just too high.

Sorry if I sound so negative on this one. I just wish Tamiya would stick to producing affordable kits. I can't understand why their modern releases are so much more expensive (in the UK anyway) than Hasegawa equivalents of similar quality.

All the best

$45 is still not outrageous, although it is getting close to the cut off point. It's what I'll pay at my LHS, probably. The transparent kits are always more expensive than the opaque ones.

:-) :-) :-) :-)

Well if it really is $30 (£19!)I hearby eat my words... yum! yum! :-) The normal version is nearly £10 more than that in the UK!

I'll let you know what it costs this side of The Pond... something tells me it'll be a heck of a lot more

I wouldn't be surprised at £40+ ($60+)... That's what I've seen Tamiya's version of the AMTech Huckbein going for... crazy money! ...do you see why I moan about Tamiya's prices over here?

Thing have got so bad, one Central London shop only puts empty boxes on display, and keeps the parts behind the counter... otherwise people keep nicking them!!

All the best

The Swordfish, which is only slightly more expensive than the 262 on HLJ is sitting on my LHS shelf for $72 USD, so I will more than likely be ordering mine from Japan since my LHS is not really known for good prices (strict retail pricing).

Hi Tim

Ohhh!!! The Swordfish is a lovely model!! :-)

When it first came out in the UK, it was about £45 and most modellers had to say "I'd love to buy it... but not at that price" ... me included...

As luck would have it, one of our major chains was taken over and they did a major clear-out. To my amazement they flogged their stock of Swordfish kits for £19.99 ($30) each!!! Needless to say, I was in like the proverbial ferret and bought a couple!! :-) :-)

Just out of interest, how much is the new P-47 in the States. It works out about $43 over here.... I've been buying AMTech and Accurate Miniatures stuff direct from the US because they're so dear in the UK... maybe you guys also get a better deal on Tamiya :-)

All the best

hmmm After reading my post and Merlin's response I feel I should clarify as my befuddled old brain isn't being very clear.

I was at my LHS today, buying my kit for WoW, and I saw the Swordfish on the shelf. Out of curiosity, I took a look at it to see the price so I may have some idea of what the 262 will cost when it comes out. I don't plan to build the Swordfish, so I meant that I would probably buy my 262 from HLJ.

IOne day I'll learn to speak gooder english.

The clear Mig-15bis is only about $7 more than HLJ lists it, go figure, so I'm hoping the 262 won't be too bad since I prefer to support my LHS so that they don't go away. If it's more than twice the cost on HLJ, however, I'm going to have to help Japan's economy a bit. My LHS has gotten plenty of my money anyway.

Dunno about the P-47, but I can go check for you this week. I need to get some paint for this silly Osprey anyway. 5000 shades of Grey and I don't have the right ones. Although, if you want a really good deal you need to get friendly with some of our members that are in Japan.

Like no one was expecting this from Tamiya? They make a clear one of everything almost. It seems that way at least. But it is pretty cool, hell, I'd even get one!

Hi Tim,

As a rule, I try to support my local shop, because they're a dying breed 'round here...

Thanks to your posts, I just checked out HLJ for the first time... WOW!!! :-) All their Tamiya stuff is less than half the UK prices... I'm afraid (sorry LHS ) I'm going to have to give them a try... can't argue with prices like that! :-)

All the best

Merlin, I've recently ordered a couple of kits from HLJ. They certainly seem on the ball as far as keeping you informed about your order status. I got an email this week confirming the order has been sent and their prices are certainly good compared to what we pay in the UK. The downside is the time it takes for delivery, [up to 30 days, sometimes longer] and there is a chance on getting stung for import duties when the package arrives in this country.

Hi Martin

Yeah the Customs Duty is a real pain... and very hit or miss!

I've bought several times from Great Models in the US, and some deliveries have tax to pay, others don't...

Great Models latest newsletter says they're finding a way for cheaper postage and avoiding customs... :-)

All the best
