hey all, Eduard hellcat on the way, it says to use, Gunze H74 sky , H305 grey and h52 olive drab. I looked online at the conversion chart, and it came up qith equivelant humbrol colours ( i prefer to use tamiya) but not much tamiya crossover.
what tamiya coulours would you use to represent these colours, thanks

this is for the fleet air arm?
if so, better to go with the actual colors instead of their suggestions.

yeah, best to match off the actual color than someone's estimation of what colors in some other manufacturer come closest to matching!
let's see, for a fleet air arm hellcat...
...and a little web research later:
"In January 1944, after the creation of the SEAC (South East Asia Command), H.M.S. Illustrious arrived on station carrying Fairey Barracudas and a fighter complement of Grumman Hellcats. The Hellcats, along with other US-built aircraft, were painted in the Temperate Sea Scheme, but were painted using the US versions of the British paint. The US versions were known as ANA (Army-Navy) colors. These color equivalents were ANA 613 - Olive Drab and ANA 603 - Sea Gray upper surfaces, and ANA 610 - Sky lower surfaces."
So these US equivalents are done nicely in the model master "acryl" range.
Tamiya has two olive drabs I think (could be wrong about that) - you'll want the lighter one. XF62 is one of their olive drabs.
the "sky" color ANA610 is NOT the greenish RAF sky, but rather a light grey. Tamiya XF20 or 21 should do there (probably 20)
ANA 603 seems to match tamiya XF24, according to the web...
Keep in mind matching this way is likely to land you only in the rough neighborhood though.
so you can look it up yourself next time:

Iv'e had no problems with Xtracrlics whatsoever with the airbrush or brush. With the airbrush using de-ionosed water to dilute or just hand painted out of the bottle they 're great.

Xtracrylix also have their own thinners in case you can't get them to work through the airbrush with water. I use the thinners and for the most part they work fine. I'm not keen on hand painting with them though.
thanks

the interior is going to be US standard production colors, so US interior green is not a bad choice. maybe dark gray if it had it's self sealing rubber exposed and unpainted?
I'm not actually aware of a fuel tank behind the cockpit. there was a tank under the cockpit, but this would not be visible in a closed up model.

hmm, it may not be a fule tank then, there is a cap on the fuselage, that is on the rhs behind the window. and it appears to lead to that. its in the aires cockpit set.
i had a feelingit may have been self sealing rubber if it were a fuletank, but if it was anything else, i was unsure of colour choices. i had a trawl of old google, but it didnt turn up much on stuff behind the seat.
