Hi all

Well, there were times when I doubted I'd ever get this far , but the Albatros is finally beginning to look like an aeroplane! :-)





There are still some details to add and then, of course, the rigging ... but there's a real chance I might actually finish this little bleeder! :-)

Now I'll just open the window and see if she flies!!

I'll try to add some pics if I manage to get some more done...

In future I won't make any jokes about "seeing if she flies" 'cause, guess what! - I dropped her on the floor!! :-)

One observation is that bi-planes don't really bounce...

Nothing fatal (amazingly), but the top wing is off again, and most of today's work is down the drain...

I always knew this kit would kick and struggle to the bitter end! :-)

Sometimes all you can do is laugh! :-) After all I really DID tempt fate!

Believe it or not, I've started re-rigging... I got the top wing back on easier than the first time - probably 'cause I've more practice now! Next time, I'll try it blindfold! :-)

Perhaps, for safety's sake, I'd better withdraw that last joke...

Age of Aces has been a great Campaign for me. I haven't built a WW1 plane since I was a kid, so I've had to learn a bunch of new stuff. It's tested my patience at times and I'd have probably given up if it hadn't been a Campaign...

My albatros is advancing slowly. it should be finished in time... right in time...

You're welcome! :-) It's thanks to you that I've built my first WW1 aircraft! :-)

The mottle is done the "old-fashioned" way... using a brush with its bristles cut short and quite thin paint. The full-size aircraft had the camouflage stippled on with a rag or sponge, so this was the nearest I could get to the effect...

:-) As expected Rowan, superb. Rigging looks great, what did you use? The tyres look like a good colour for rubber of the period, what colour did you use?

The rigging is stretched sprue tightened up with a hot pin. It's ok, but it was a pain trying to get consistent thicknesses. Next time I may try fishing line...

The tyres are painted pale grey with a touch of beige to warm it up. I've heard that early rubber ranged in colour from yellowish to almost pink - but I didn't want to be too extreme!
