I was up at the hobby shop about a week ago and i picked up the Squadron magazine and looked through it, didnt but it yet. I did see a Super Cobra i think with a mini-gun on each of the wings( whats the proper name for them?) and one in the nose, does anyone know what iam talking about?? I know there is a kit of a Supercobra out there somewhere but who makes it, and are there any different companies that make one? Also does anybody make a cobra with the mini guns iam talking about??

thanks guys,
Mike

MRC makes two different Supercobras in 1:35, if those are the ones you saw. The two are the AH-1T+ Super Gold Cobra in a gloss black/gold demonstration markings and an AH-1W that comes in normal USMC gray/green or desert camo scheme. I've got the Gold Cobra. Main armament is the M197 20mm gun and the wing pods you speak of are the M18 7.62mm mini-gun pods. I do not know if the mini-guns are included in the kit, but I do know that they have optional Hellfire, TOW or 2.75mm rockets.

I have the MRC AH-1W Super Cobra kit.(not the gold and black version) This kit contains 20mm gun in the nose, with the option of Hellfire missiles, 2.75" rocket pods, and TOW missiles for the stub wings. No mention in the instruction book of miniguns for the stub wings. I'll see what my other references say and get back.

According to "Modern Fightning Helicopters" by Bill Gunston and Mike Spick, there is a wide variety of stub wing stores for the Cobra. It shows the M35 system with XM195 20mm gun as the only gun system under wing, but many different rocket, missile, bomb options. Nose guns consist of ; M28 minigun,TAT turret with 2 M28 guns or 2 40mm grenade launchers, M197 three barrel 20mm cannon, GE Gau-12/U 25mm gun, M230 30mm chain gun, and the Emerson Flexible Turret Turret system with M28 Minigun. Granted, this book was published in 1986 so much has changed as far as gun systems go.
