This is welcome news, in that apparently there was no previous kit that "got it right."

According to talk on another aircraft forum, the Tamiya research team spent a lot of time going over a production 'Stang at the Air & Space Museum. Unfortunately, most Mustangs that survived the war were modified, either in the field or post-bellum. So those errors have crept into the modeling oeuvre.

Is this fact about the new P-51D Mustang from Tamiya or speculation? I'm sure the designers know very well what has been modified on a restored machine.

Like many people I wonder if they have get it right with the landing gear bays since no 1:32 scale P-51D Mustang kit features correct ones to date.

Tamiya used the NASM P-51 which is the only one in original WW2 modification.

All in one great news, but i´m still waiting for someone who release some big russians.

highly detailed Yak- Family or a largescale La-5 /La-7 would be nice. And why not a Pe-2?

My scale seems to be all of them .
As for the accuracy, as long as it looks like a Mustang then that is fine with me. I would imagine Tamiya's release to be easy to build, and pretty accurate but until we see the sprues no-one will know, so its pointless debating.

Although I have the Dragon early and late boxings of their P-51D if this is anything like their Spitfire kits I'll be having one and I'm working on masks for "Big Beautiful Doll" which should do this kit justice
It will be interesting to compare the Dragon and Tamiya kits, but I can guess which one I will prefer

Hi Jim,
BBD is taking shape slowly as I'm having to do it between easier subjects. I have some time off over easter and I intend to try and get it finished so that I have it available for my trade stand at Scale Modelworld this year. I still have you on my list and I will let you know when I have cracked it

1- 334th FS, Lt. Marvin Arthur, "Bondie"
2- 487th FS, Lt. Col John C. Meyer, "Petie 2nd"
3 - 79th FS, Capt. Glenn M Webb,"Glengary Guy"

only sees one out of three images but what I see is mighty interesting.

So Tamya are giving this one armament something I thought really disappointing in the Spitfire Mk IX kit, in fact I was astounded considering the price that there was no armament.

Hi all

There's exciting news today from Roy Sutherland that he's already planning some superdetail sets for Tamiya's Mustang. Havng seen what he did for their Spitfire, the results should be spectacular!

All the best

Andy

This is indeed good news, however I can see nothing on Tamiya's US or European website to confirm the release. Can you give the correct and full URL?

Some images from the Shizuoka show where Tamiya have today launched the new Mustang.

Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on one
