Here is my 1/72 scale Revell Bf 110E-1 I built recently. This Revell kit actually uses the old 1967 Monogram molds and is reboxed by Revell, the molds are starting to show their age and my kit had a lot of flash on some of the small parts. As expected with older kits from the 1960s all the surface detail is raised and not recessed like modern kits. Revell does provide a very nice decal sheet in this kit and the decal sheet has a lot of the stencils included.

My model was built completly O.O.B. and I used the kit decals as well which went on with no problems. I chose the marking option of the Bf 110E flown by Hptm. Ralph von Rittenberg of II. ZG 26.

Here are the pics...

As always Les, a very nice job on an older model. Great work. I especially enjoy the background for the model to sit in. Russell

P.S. How about a rundown on what colors were used on the kit?

Thanks very much Russell!

The model was painted in RLM 02 and RLM 71 on the uppersurfaces, the undersurfaces were painted RLM 65.
I used my Iwata Revolution BR airbrush to paint with and the entire camouflage was painted free handed, only the yellow tactical markings were masked and painted with the airbrush.

BTW, I misspelled the pilots name...it was actually Ralph von Rettberg.

Thanks padawan!

I am 100% sure this was an ex-Monogram mold, thats the main reason I bought this Revell kit, I built the original Monogram kit when I was a kid in the early 1970s and wanted to have another try at building it using modern paints and an airbrush.

Thank you Neil,
I have never had the Matchbox Bf 110, could Matchbox have used the Monogram molds?
On the inside of one of the large parts of this model Monogram was ingraved on it and the parts are the same as I remember from the original Monogram boxing. The reason I remember this kit as well as I do is because it was the first kit that I made that had soft edged mottling on the fuselage, this was done by cutting holes in thin cardboard to make a mask so I could use a rattle can to spray the mottles on. Back in those days I did not even know what an airbrush was!

your correct Les it was an original monogram release, Matchbox altered some of the parts to make a C/D model with their release that's why i thought matchbox because the build up is the same, but it is indeed an original monogram kit

Les i was wondering how you tackled the cockpit detail of the kit, or should i say lack of as i was looking at the sprues and instructions of my 110E and the cockpit is rather sparse to say the least do you know if any AM manufacturer does a cockpit for this baby?

Padawan_82,
I did not do anything about the lack of cockpit detail in this kit and when I bought this kit I knew exactly what I was getting and was not concerened about the lack of interior detail.
I do have one of those 1/48 scale Eduard Bf 110 kits and it has plenty of cockpit detail in it, I usually don't bother buying aftermarket upgrades for my models, if I want more detail in my models I just buy kits that have the better detail or buy a larger scale.

Sorry I don't know of any aftermarket detail sets for the Revell Bf 110E, since the new Airfix Bf 110 kits became available there would be no market for detail sets for the much older Revell kit.
