While searching the internet, I recently uncovered an article titled “Jug Over the Sinai” claiming that in 1948 Israel was able to procure 6 P-47’s. Has anyone else ever heard about Israeli Jugs can you confirm the IAF used them?
Thanks in advance for your help – I’d love to hear more,
Noah

Noah,
Sorry to have to tell you, but you might want to check the publication date on that article, I think I know it. Pretty sure it was published around April 1 and is an April Fool's joke. I think, POSSIBLY, the IAF was working to get some P-47s and an escort carrier to ferry them, but the deal fell through before anything was actually collected. Unfortunately, the Israelis never used any Thunderbolts (or aircraft carriers).
Sorry about that!
Michael

Then again, if the IAF did not use P-47's, theres always the 'What If' campaign coming up in October.

I remember reading a book about early IAF days. One of the chapters was about wide range of planes that were bought all over the world. Jews were offered P-47 from Brazil, but have chosen Czehoslovakia's offer. The reason was that S.199 was a part of a bigger sale deal and they had no choice but to accept inferior plane to receive more more equipment.
