I have a KoTS Build WNW Pup underway and plan to finish it as "Nick" Carter's N6179 "Baby Mine" of 3 Naval Sqn. The various references are somewhat contradictory; I have the Pheon Decal Sheet which indicates a black (C Flight) nose color as does the Osprey Pup Aces Book however the just released Naval Aces volume shows a Red nose (B Flight) for Carter. The comment in the dialogue states that N6179 "was later reassigned to C Flight and the cowling painted black". A quick comparison of info in the previous 2 books, "Over the Trenches", and coincidently "The History of 10 Naval Squadron" confirm Carter scored 3 kills with this aircraft in April of 1917 but no reference to which Flight of 3 Naval he was on thus which Flight color is appropriate to that specific time. The author of " Naval Aces" references letters from Carter to himself in his research thus I tend towards his red approach for my build however thought there might be someone in our group who can shed some light on this admittedly "AMS" quandary of mine.
Any Pup or Naval Sqns. experts out there who can help?

Cheers,
Lance

Carter's short bio

1. 06 Apr 1917 1020 3N Sopwith Pup (N6160) Halberstadt D.III (OOC) Bourlon Wood.
2. 23 Apr 1917 1730 3N Sopwith Pup (N6179) Albatros D.III (DES) Epinoy.
3. 23 Apr 1917 1800 3N Sopwith Pup (N6179) Albatros D.III (OOC) Epinoy.
4. 29 Apr 1917 1115 3N Sopwith Pup (N6179) Albatros D.III (OOC) SE of Cambrai.
5. 27 May 1917 0740 3N Sopwith Pup (N6474) Albatros D.III (OOC) E of Bullecourt.

The writings of Stewart K. Taylor (Canada's AAHS secretary for many years) may yield a clue to this. I also know there are a few articles in the old C&C USA and maybe in the C&C GB (later (intl.) that migh have a thing or two. Another soucre might be Mike Westrop hisself.

Stephen,
Thanks for the leads. I was able to find Mike Westrop on the Aerodrome and sent him a request. I took the liberty of mentioning your referal, hope that's OK. Also noted the older correspondence including yours regarding Stewart K Taylor; appears he is living in Ontario but couldn't see any way to contact him. I'm sure Mr. Westrop will come through given his excellent publications to date. I'll update this thread when I get a reply, there may be others in our community that may be interested.
The more I learn the more I become aware of the tremendous amount of expertise out there...awesome to say the least!
Thanks again,
Cheers,
Lance

Mike is a good fellow and he may very well know what your looking for. Stewart K. Taylor is an older gentleman and may not be in the best of health.
