Hi all.
I am completing the Airfix 1/24 Hurricane in the next few days and I am looking for my next build and need inspiration. Whilst I really like making 1/24 scale ww2 they are big: I'd love to do the mossie but at the price and the size it may not be viable.

Can anyone recommend a particularly good build to do? WW2 preferably. I am prepared to try any scale except 1/72. Model and Brand would be appreciated along with why you recommend it.

Thanks
Andy

Revell 1:32 He 111
Revell 1:32 Ar 196
Revell 1:32 Ju 88

In value for money, these three kits are hard to beat for large, impressive results.

For 1/48, everyone says the Eduard Hellcat boxings are very good value (the Weekend editions are available if you want to save money and avoid the photo-etched parts).

Although 1:72, the new Revell Flying Fortress B-17G or the reasonably new Lancaster are both nice kits and fairly large.

The Tamiya kits are a bit more pricey, but you may be able to get a good deal on a 1:48 Mosquito, which go together really easily.

All the above recommendations are from looking at build reviews, with no personal experience of the kits- I don't have the space for anything larger that 1/72 twin engine aircraft!

Hi Andy,

Consider this:
Trumpeter 1/32 ME 262 This kit builds into an excellent model of the revolutionary warplane. Despite the large number of parts, mixed media and some fit troubles; I believe it can be successfully built by modelers of even average experience, so long as the number of parts do not become overwhelming.

Besides the above mentioned ( really good value for money those 1/32 from Revell) I cannot help to suggest the Zvezda 1/48 109 F and La-5.
Excellent detail and easy of construction, with a little effort will make stunning replicas.

Another ( this one based on what I've read) is the 1/32 109 F from Hasegawa, but might be a bit pricy

Cheers

Hi Andrew
Ben is absolutly right, the new Revell offerings are great.
The JU 88 has gobs of after market stuff out there and the size for the price isnt bad.
Myself I like to cruise Ebay and see what they have at a cheap price in 1/32 scale, I scored 2 Revell 1/32 P-40Es for under $23.00 with shipping and the decals for 2 aircraft of Greg Boyington, and Tex Hill for $11.00
Watch a movie, that will do it everytime for me, just go with the flow.
And dont be affraid to work more than 1 at a time, we are all guilty of that here, just have fun with it.
Oh and look at the KOTS Campain, you might like WW1, Bipes got me back into this.

Tamiya's 1/48 P-47 Thunderbolts (razorback and bubbletop) are a nice easy build out of the box and only really need some etch seatbelts. they can be a bit pricey but keep an eye on evilBay I picked a pair up recently for £25.

Thanks everyone, there are some good pointers towards kits there. Have been considering 1/32 as a scale as the 1/24 are just so big.

I do have several on the go at once; the Spit and Hurricane are my main 2 at the moment but do have the Revel dambuster Lanc on the go but there are so many problems with this kit especially in the cockpit that I have been scratch building many extras for this.

Think I might do the ME262. Also considering the JU 88 and a BF109. The 111 is interesing.

The Flying Fortress does look good and is one I have considered before.

Bi Planes... yes I love these older aircraft but never modelled one. I do make wooden biplanes at the school where I work and the kids love to do these so why not? I feel an SE 5 coming on.

Perhaps Santa will be visiting early this year, hello Mr Bank Manager.
