When Minicraft''s DC-8 kit was released in 2005 it was immediately obvious that it surpassed the fine execution of their MD-80, which had previously been the best airliner kit ever. The kit is offered as the DC-8-71, -73 or -63 in 4 different boxings. There had been plans to offer it as a -61 but these fell through over issues with moulding the portion of the pylon that wraps over the leading edge of the wing and the death of Minicraft''s founder Al Trendle. Contrails offers resin replacement engines which will enable a -61 to be built from any boxing of the kit. Since the DC-8-63 is otherwise identical apart from the engines, I will include a picture of the engine sprue from a -63 kit.
