So,your intrepid modellers Nigel (Lampie) and Steve (Stonar) find themselves marooned in a field in the lovely town of Tamworth. They are somewhere
underneath this stage.
We are here until Sunday night and have decided to fill our time with a bit of al fresco modelling. To this end we have equipped ourselves with a couple
of Airfix starter kits and a Stanley knife, that's it.
Wrenched from our well equipped work benches we will work in rather less salubrious surroundings.
Here are the mug shots, not suitable for small children or sensitive souls, showing the two kits to be completed.
The plan is to have them built and painted and posed in flight. They will hang somewhere above the heads of Madness on Sunday night.
Enough of this waffle,I'm off to build my engine (two parts).
Cheers
Steve and Nigel

Do you want paint masks for them?
Posted: Friday, September 02, 2011 - 07:43 AM UTC
Hi Mal.
Probably won't need paint masks for these lol.
In fact, our only masking material available is electrical insulation tape!!
Tell you what though, it's great just knocking a kit together for the fun of it!

Not TOO close to the spots guys, lest there by drips of red hot molten styrene raining on the musos.

Halfway through the first day of the festival and your intrepid duo are battling along using just what comes with the kit and whatever implements we can find.
Both of us have reached the primer stage, and I've started attacking the P-51 with a hairy stick and the silver acrylic.
Stoners cheated a little, and decided to let his Halfords grey primer double as neutral grey!
All on course to get finished by tomorrow nights Madness set!

Both models painted (with what appears to be poster paints) and decalled . Luckily the decals were rather good which is just as well since we don't have any Klear or other varnish!
Backstage rigging test has also been completed.

Nige, there's some problem with your pictures: none of them displays on my end. Of course I tried to refresh and open these pictures as separate files but nothing worked.
Anyway guys, it's good to see you had a great modeling time and shared your joy with us. It's always nice to an "easy-going" style of modeling from time to time

So, do you actually do any "work"?
P-51 and P-47 look good, dispite having no proper modelling equipment.
I see that Steve hasn't joined the Bulldogs yet

Beautifully done gentlemen. What a great way to put some fun back into a hobby that we tend to take far too seriously most of the time.

I wonder if the musicians noticed. Couldn't ask for better air cover if the locals got rowdy. Fun on the run.

The guys knew that they had a "Fighter Escort" that night
Both models survived the show and subsequent load out intact, and myself and Steve both decided to take them home as reminders that, at the end of the day, modelling is all about enjoying the hobby and having fun.
Right, I'm off to try get the last few bits attached to my heavily researched Tamiya P-47 which I started last October and still haven't finished!
Happy Days,
Nige
